The Bright Side

I decided to create another blog. The reason is because I worry that I do not say thank you enough. So I'll use this blog to say thank you, and hopefully it will help me focus more on the good stuff instead of the bad. If you are reading this and have a comment; post it, or if you are reading this and find something you are thankful for; post it! No matter how big or small; silly or serious; and even if it doesn't make sense...

Still thankful!

I haven't posted on here in a long time! I had started a facebook page On The Bright Side and was really focused on that, and then I got sick. Yeah I know excuses, excuses. Join me on facebook, or don't and I'll try to start keeping up with this blog!

Anywho, I am thankful as always and here is why:

The birds still chirp out side, and now my husband enjoys watching them with me!

We have 3 amazing dogs, who like to cuddle.

My daughter has been accepted into her college of choice.

I got to share a fantastic vacation this summer with people I love.

The past few days I have had more "spoons" than usual.

We have electricity.

We have a home. It's leaky, but it's ours.

The sky is magical.

The ocean is healing.

The wind lifts me up.

The land keeps me grounded.

July 3, 2013

It has been a while, I have tried (and for the most part succeeded) in finding one thing or more everyday that I am thankful for. It has been tough because I feel myself slipping into a depression. That happens to me a lot, something my counselor told me was common for people with chronic illness. I'm reminded of my limitations everyday, some days it's difficult to shake off. The last few weeks have been busy, which is probably why I am not feeling well today. I over did it.

So today I am relaxing and doing nothing other than playing games on face book and chatting with friends. I hope to take a nap. Tomorrow is the 4th of July, which brings many things to mind. I get so angry at our politicians here in America, but I am thankful I was born here.

I am also thankful for:

Kate - my daughter
Frank - my husband
Mom and Dad
Pete - my brother
My in-laws
Jessica - my best friend
Corey
A working car
My doctors (all of them)
My dogs - Little Fox, Snoop and Mack
Popsicles
Air Conditioning
My house
Scott and Mary
Sera
Jon
Internet
Cable television
Ancestry.com
My roommate Bill
Birds - many visit me during the mornings and afternoon. I love listening to the sing!

Clean water

Everyday Thankful

I started a page on facebook to help me remember to be thankful. It has been therapeutic these past few weeks as my pain levels have increased. I find that if I stay thankful it helps me to stay grounded. So what daily little things are you thankful for? I am thankful for the everyday things: Waking up with my husband. Talking to family on the phone. Watching Burn Notice with my husband and daughter. Petting my dogs. A working refrigerator. A front yard that birds like to visit. A heating pad and hot tea. A daughter that is thoughtful and funny. Dessert Good friends People who will listen, even when I am whining. Hot water My parakeets chirping every morning. Angel reruns Salt The internet Nature Shapes in the clouds. Sunlight on my face. Grass between my toes. Rain storms Sales at the grocery store Chocolate milk My inlaws, for all of their help and support. The lessons my mom and dad taught me.

Its been a while...

So I haven't kept up with this blog like I had hoped too. As a matter of fact I only thought about a new post because I mentioned this blog on facebook. Since my last post I took a trip to NYC with my husband and daughter for her 16th birthday, and a trip to Duck, NC with my family and friends (the Simms, Chris, Damon, Devin and Alexander). So I have a long list... Thankful for the little things

So I have not posted in a while. It's not that I haven't been appreciating the little things, but rather that I have been busy and when I'm not busy I've been to tired to put something cohesive together!

-I turned 35 April 14th, so that is on my list of things. 35 is a big deal for me, hell it should be a big deal for everyone!

-For my birthday we went to the National Arboretum, which I am also thankful that I got to see it! It is absolutely beautiful!

-My brother, Pete, is doing well; and that is something I am extremely happy for!

-Frank has been doing well, as well as Kate. Kate was asked to prom so I have been helping her look for dresses and Frank's art has been doing well both at work and personally.

-I have been tired and sore a lot more often lately; so I am pretty thankful for a warm bed and hot baths.

-I am thankful for my friends and family, for being them. And for loving me and letting me be me.

Think about what you are thankful for.

Forget the bad and the ugly...It's all about the good today!

So I have been kind of whiny lately about my health...and I've been getting myself down. So today I'll be posting about all of the GOOD things in my life.

1. My daughter, Kate. Honestly the best thing that has ever happened to me.
2. Frank, my husband, my best friend, my confidant, my soul mate, and my love.
3. My family is pretty awesome. I don't know if I mention it often enough but
family rocks. They are there to help out when I need someone, if they can help
they will.

4. My dogs, Little Fox and Snoop. For real;these guys sit next to me everyday and
always make things OK when they do.

5. The kindness of strangers; or that not so strange-er. This week my daughter had
the opportunity to go to a culinary camp in Frederick MD. This was made possible because the Kitchen Studio is awesome and it is run by an amazing woman. And Comstar Federal Credit Union. You guys are awesome...absolutely 100% awesome and I don't know if you will ever know how much this means to me; or to Kate.

6. My friends are pretty kick ass too. Last week Kate, her friend Kearie, and I went
to a friends house to play some board games. Kara, Angela, Fran and Ann; you
gals are a boat load of fun. This summer I have also been spending some time
with my besty Jessica. We have been going out on Friday's to paint pottery and
stuff...it helps me get my mind off of things and she always makes me laugh!

7. I'm pretty thankful for the internet and our television. I know that probably
sounds sad; but since I spend a lot of time resting I use them both often. God
bless modern technology!

8. My house is mine. It's nice to be able to sit back and know that I own a home. Of course I have a mortgage, but I'm not depending on a landlord to fix stuff, and I can plant whatever I want in the front yard.

9. The National Institutes of Health. NIH is pretty awesome, despite the slacking on my medical care for my rare mitochondrial disease...my CF doctor is amazing. Most of my medicine is covered, and they are on top of the cystic fibrosis aspect of my life.

10. Nature is awe inspiring. The birds chirping the green grass and trees swaying in the breeze...life all around...beauty all around...It's just the best place on earth; being outside. (Or inside with the air conditioning on day like today! LOL)

11. Air Conditioning and air purifiers. Yep despite the above mention of nature and all of it's awesomeness; it is hot today. Really hot. So I am thankful that when the air quality gets bad and its way to hot, that I have a nice cool house to sit in. With a nice big window to watch all that nature!

This is not all by any means. Here is a list of things I am thankful for that need no explanation...

The potato- Don't act shocked that this made my list. You know you love potatoes.
Pop tarts - Yes I know they are bad for you. But if loving them is wrong...then I don't wanna be right.
Photographs
Chocolate
Fly Swatters
Kids - Not just mine and not the screaming ones in line at the grocery store...the funny cute ones.
Ice
Tooth picks
Music
Coupons
Education
